Photographic influences
James Nachtwey
Ever since I first watched the documentary made about this man, I have been intrigued and inspired. Not only does his work speak for itself, but Nachtwey himself is one of the most interesting men alive today.
His ability to create a photo that is technically flawless and still has a soul and an important story to tell is amazing. Also amazing is the way that he deals with all the horrific images he has seen; unlike most war photographers he has not become cynical or bitter. He still believes in the good of mankind and hopes that his work can change or touch at least one person.
You might want to call him naive, but I think he's an example for us all.
"I have been a witness, and these pictures are my testimony. The events I have recorded should not be forgotten and must not be repeated"

Henri Cartier-Bresson
This man recently published a thick red book full of his photos made during an entire lifetime and for months I eyed it at my local bookstore, almost licking my lips each time I saw its shiny red cover..Until my boyfriend bought it for me as an early Christmas present. It was my first introduction to a man who since then has inspired me greatly. The same aspects always repeat themselves in his photos without getting boring; shadows, shapes, shadows and shapes combined, people, people and shadows, poverty and ofcourse people in poverty. Cartier-Bresson can create near magical pieces of art with these otherwise simple subjects. With a gift for excellent compositions, a flair for dealing with people and the secret knowledge of somehow always knowing the exact right time to click that button, this man's work astonishes me.
His photos, filled with atmosphere and soul, are hard to ignore and they shall stay a huge inspiration for me for a long time to come.
