Artist's statement
When I first understood what photography meant to me and what I could do with it, I felt like I had been reborn. Everything, even the most mundane of objects, was special and different and all I had to do was find the exact right angle to bring forth the art hidden within.
I was 17 and convinced I wasn't talented in anything, so the discovery of photography as a form of art gave me new hope and managed to open my eyes. The world isn't always pretty and it can be quite cruel, but I've always tended to try and show how it really is. Not pretty and cruel. I don't set about to show a softened view of the world, I'd rather show the honest truth. Too many people go about their lives blinkered like a horse, I tore off my blinkers a long time ago.
In a time when many people wish to seek adventure and for that reason travel to the other side of the world, this is when I've realized that true adventure lies in everyday life. The most mundane things in life are the source of my adventure and I wish to bring out every little aspect of it.
I often say that my speciality is people photography with a twist - I prefer to portray what humans have made and left behind than actual humans. It's all still connected in the end.
